Foundation of the first Danish DHI society is honored to Niels Pedersen, headmaster of Ladelund Landbrugsskole near Vejen in southern Jutland. He was heavily involed in creameries and had noticed % fat in the milk continued to drop over some years late 1880'ies and early 1890'ies. This had a negative impact on production economy on the coops owned by famers and of course a spin off was less pay for the milk, influencing the price to farmers.

Niels Pedersen was aware that it all starts with the single cow. If the bucket is full but a very low % fat, she may not even pay for her feed.  Pedersen knew that improvements had to organized and handled systematically. His ideas and principles still counts. Correct data and results from each cow is essential to produce valuable information for the herd manager.
